analyse how one or more ideas in the text served as warnings to the readers.

In the text Fahrenheit 451 the author Ray Bradbury implants in the text several ideas that are meant to warn  the readers of potential dangers that could be the by-product of the rapid development of technology. in this text we will be talking about the idea of people not caring about the facts and just caring about the story e.g. when Montage watches his own police chase, when mildred won’t get rid of the “sea shells”,

in Fahrenheit 451 we are constantly reminded of the idea that people have stopped caring about the facts and never second guess what the government tells them. This is shown when Montag is being chased by the police and he goes back to Faber house, on the tv it shows that the police are not following him anymore but just a random person Faber explains why “Picture it. Nineteenth-century man with his horses, dogs, carts, slow motion. Then, in the Twentieth Century, speed up your camera. Books cut shorter. Condensations. Digests. Tabloids. Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending.” this shows that people just care about entertainment this is show again when montages wife and her friends are talking about who they  are going to vote for. “insert quote” all they care about is how they look not what they are going to do for the country. a real life example of this is news papers in the 19th century they were top to bottom news articles but now it is a small article per page and surrounded by ads.

when  Mildred manages to pull her self away from her parlor she still has her seashells to listen. in a part of the book Mildred had committed suicide with sleeping pills with the sea shells still in her ear this shows that the emptiness in the media had driven Mildred to insanity “She just lay there not saying anything with the sea shells chirping in her ear” the sea shells are a metaphor because like a shell at the sea while people think they are hearing something of substance what they are really hearing is just and empty echo. a real world example of this would be ear pods they are every where and they blast out pop songs riddled.subliminal messaging to make us think a certain way. and podcasts and new bulletinsthat only give us one side of the story.
